The Brown family

Our story

A personal journey transformed into purpose.

Camiyah was born at 25 weeks and spent 91 days in the NICU. During that time, her mother, Tierra, learned how powerful a parent’s voice can be—even when their baby cannot yet speak for themselves.

As both a NICU mother and NICU nurse, Tierra saw the need for resources that help families understand care, communicate confidently, feel emotionally supported, and stay connected to their baby’s story.

Camiyah’s Voice was created to meet that need through education, storytelling, care-package donations, community partnerships, and family-centered support.

With love,
The Browns

Your Voice Is My Bridge

A NICU story of love, voice, and hope.

This heartfelt children’s book honors the connection between a hospitalized baby and the loving voice of a parent. A reflection prompt after the story gives families space to capture their hopes, prayers, memories, and messages for their baby.

Even when our babies cannot speak for themselves, our words can become their comfort, their strength, and their story.

NICU resources

Practical tools for the bedside and beyond.

These starter resources can be read online or printed directly from the website.

Bedside Advocacy Checklist

  • Write down questions before rounds.
  • Ask for unfamiliar terms to be explained simply.
  • Share changes you notice in your baby.
  • Ask how you can participate in care today.
  • Request an update when the plan changes.
  • Repeat back the plan to confirm understanding.

Questions for Medical Rounds

  • What is today’s main goal?
  • What changed overnight?
  • What are we watching closely?
  • What needs to happen before the next step?
  • How can I comfort or support my baby?
  • Who should I contact with questions later?

Preparing to Go Home

  • Review medication names and schedules.
  • Confirm feeding plan and warning signs.
  • Save follow-up appointment information.
  • Ask who to call after hours.
  • Practice equipment use before discharge.
  • Remember: mixed emotions are normal.

Educational resources do not replace advice from your baby’s medical team.
